Phthalates- What are they? How are they linked to Cancer?

Phthalates - What Are They?

Phthalates are a group of endocrine-disrupting chemicals that have ben found in cosmetics like synthetic fragrance-both perfumes and fragrance ingredients in other cosmetic products. (This is why we encourage you to purchase and use our brands, none of our products have have synthetic fragrances.) Phthalate exposure has been linked to early puberty in girls, a risk factor for later-life breast cancer. Some phthalates have also been found to act as weak estrogens in cell culture systems.

Phthalates and Cancer

Phthalates, pronounced THAL-ates, soften plastics and are known to disrupt the body's hormones. A 2012 study found that women working in the automotive and food-canning industries have nearly a fivefold increase in risk for premenopausal breast cancer, likely because of their exposure to phthalates, BPA and flame-retardants. Phthalates have  been linked to birth defects, asthma, neurodevelopmental problems in many newborns, fertility issues and  also obesity. Although phthalates are now banned in children's toys, they can still be found in your cosmetics & personal care products such as your shampoo. Our shampoos have no Chemicals.
